Time to toot my own horn again! Herewith I present my 2017 Photo Contest Winners. I enter many photo contests and this year a lot of them won or placed! I like to post these winners to show how my interests in subjects varies wildly! Some of the titles have a number or some random letters. In the case of the numbers, it merely refers to
whichever one that particular photograph was in a series of them. For example, Rose 2 was a series of about 12 shots of the same rose in the same setting, but this was the one I chose to enter into a contest. The numbering helps me find it in my files. (FYI: all my files are organized. I have a file for each year. In that file I have sibject files, such as LANDSCAPE, PEOPLE, ANIMALS, FLOWERS, SHUTTERBUG CHEF. In some of these subject files I also have monthly files.)
Each photo has a unique file name and is stored in the appropriate files. The random lettering is also for me to find in my files. LB Bougainvillea 1 refers to a series I did using a Light Box. In this case the first in the series is the one I chose.
Sometimes contest themes pop up and using the file system really helps zero in on a contest subject. Once in a while a contest will only allow photos taken during a certain time frame or: could be photos taken this month only, or Christmas 2015, or photos taken in another season. This way I can go to my files and select photos as the contest decrees.
Other contests are totally random subjects. A photo can be sumitted today but could be chosen for the Photo Of The Day anytime: in a few days or a year later!
My favorite contests are the ones that are juried. I like these because each photo is viewed and scored by a panel of artists. The top score wins. In other contests any registered member of the forum or website can vote. The entry with the most votes wins. The problem with this type of voting system is that there could be hundreds or thousands of entries so most members don’t look at each photo due to the time it takes to view all of them. So, if you enter a photo in one of these contests the first day and assuming the contest runs for a week, the odds of a member seeing this photo are slim because the photos are listed from most recent to the oldest entries. Some members play it like a game in that they will enter the contests in the last few minutes or hours before the submission time lapses. This gives them more views, therefore probably more votes. Usually there are no prizes awarded, but sometimes the winning photo will be featured on a website.
A few of my photos actually were nominated and/or won contests on multiple sites.
In order from earliest to most recent, here are my 2017 photo contest winners:
